Safety

Safety First! This is the motto that people working in laboratories and factories must bear in mind. In our homes too, accidents can happen and we have to take precautions to prevent them. In small groups, discuss the accidents that can happen in a chemistry laboratory. Note them down and think of the safety rules that must be observed. Tell the class about the danger and about the rules to be observed. Here is an example. There is likelihood of pieces of glass being scattered on the floor. Acids too may be spilt on the floor. Find as many other safety rules as you can. Here are some hints to set you thinking; clothes, gloves, labels on bottles, transferring liquids, mixing liquids, cuts, burns, suffocation explosion, and gas cylinder.
